After returning from EICMA 2025 in Milan, Amanda Martin, CATAGEN’s Green Emissions Testing (G.E.T) Business Development and Customer Success Manager, shares her reflections on this year’s key themes, from Euro 5+ to sustainable emissions testing and how CATAGEN (G.E.T) is supporting OEMs and suppliers through these challenges.
- How did EICMA 2025 feel compared to last year?
It was noticeably busier, not just in footfall, but in focus. There was a real sense of purpose across the halls. All conversations weren’t solely about styling or top-end performance, but about validation, durability, Euro 5+ and achieving consistently low tailpipe emissions.
- What stood out most across the show floor?
Sustainability was woven through everything. EICMA did a good job of walking the talk, from sustainable transport options for attendees to recognising exhibitors who reduced their environmental footprint. On the product side, electric motorcycle innovation remained strong. Yamaha’s YE-01 concept and Hero MotoCorp’s Vida Novus EV attracted significant attention. Our partners, Ducati and Norton also drew interest with updated models informed by cleaner combustion strategies and refined aftertreatment design.
- Is Euro 5+ still the dominant topic?
Absolutely. Every manufacturer is aware that Euro 5+ changes the game. Larger OEMs have been refining their programmes for a while, but smaller ones are under some pressure. The cost and complexity of durability testing remain a major barrier, especially when correlating real-world ageing to lab validation under tougher limits.
What everyone wants now is repeatable, regulator-ready data that meets expectations from bodies like TÜV, IDIADA, CETOC and ECO cert. Reliability in testing isn’t just a nice-to-have anymore, it’s essential to being able to sell bikes or aftermarket exhausts.
- How important are low tailpipe emissions in today’s programmes?
Low tailpipe emissions are now a defining metric of Euro 5+ compliance. Manufacturers need evidence that catalysts maintain conversion performance across their full lifetime, with minimal drift.
To achieve this, teams require precise, predictable ageing that correlates with real-world behaviour. CATAGEN (G.E.T) supports this by delivering highly repeatable (<2%) engine-free ageing and characterisation that helps OEMs and suppliers optimise catalyst performance, calibrate OBD thresholds, and validate low-emission aftermarket systems, including those from partners such as Akrapovic.
- How are smaller manufacturers coping?
With ingenuity and collaboration. Many are finding creative ways to reduce validation costs without compromising data integrity. For instance, fabricating simple adapters or sub-assemblies in-house before testing can save several thousand pounds per programme. There’s a growing sense of community in the motorcycle sector, competitors recommending testing partners to one another and sharing lessons learned. It’s great to see.
That sense of mutual support came through clearly for us too. Several manufacturers mentioned hearing about CATAGEN (G.E.T) through recommendations from other OEMs or legislative contacts. It’s rewarding to know our work is being recognised by those who value reliable results and fast turnaround, not just by clients, but by peers.
- What role does sustainability play in testing?
It’s becoming integral. CATAGEN’s OMEGA Technology, allows ageing cycles to run without using fuel or engines, cutting CO₂ emissions by up to 98%. They also run 24/7 and achieve repeatability below 2%, which means faster programmes and more reliable data. The industry is realising that sustainability and performance are no longer in conflict; they can reinforce each other.
- Where do you see things heading next?
In short: toward data-driven compliance. Euro 5+ has accelerated collaboration between OEMs, suppliers, and regulators, and that’s healthy for everyone. Over the next year, I expect to see more workshops and joint validation projects focused on OBD II calibration, catalyst ageing correlation, and reproducible test datasets.
EICMA 2025 made one thing very clear, Euro 5+ compliance won’t be won by technology alone, but by partnerships built on trust, data, and shared purpose.
Let’s shape the next stage of compliance together.
