GOLDEN CATALYST REPLICATION (CLONING)

CATAGEN can combine our ageing and characterisation tests, along with our expertise and in-house kinetic model to offer ‘Golden Catalyst Replication’ or ‘Cloning’.

We can replicate field aged catalysts that may have been driven between 160,000km and 240,000km i.e., ‘Golden Catalysts’. We replicate the performance of the catalysts onto fresh catalysts within an agreed tolerance with our partners.

This offering provides our partners with a secondary in-field system which can act as an insurance to the value in-field system which has a lot of time and money invested into it.

VIRTUAL SERVICES MODELLING

CATAGEN has amassed millions of data points of ageing and emissions test data on many vehicle types, models, engine sizes and variations. CATAGEN has recorded testing on 100’s of catalyst specifications with different configurations and geometries, TWC metallic, TWC ceramic, with GPF, FWC, LNT, SCR, DPF etc.

We understand the power of data and, like a fingerprint, create a kinetic model individual to our partner beyond the current industry standard. We use our model to support our testing internally, using it for various purposes such as:

  • PGM loading optimising.
  • Predicting tailpipe emissions.
  • Predicting OSC & LO Targets for reaching OBD & FUL.
  • Predicating changing engine conditions on catalyst performance

PGM OPTIMISATION SERVICES

The price of precious metals has been volatile over the past few years and this trend sets to continue.  Using our modelling tools, we can provide an insight into aftertreatment systems in the following ways:

  • Detailed Chemical analysis – provides a detailed chemical breakdown of the aftertreatment device, focusing on key components such as the PGM (platinum, palladium, rhodium) and wash coat composition.
  • Reproducible Performance testing – provides the activity analysis of the aftertreatment part, giving an understanding of how well the part will perform at different loadings.
  • Through the above analysis we can help our partners determine a PGM loading that performs and passes emissions legislation which can help reduce overall cost when the vehicle goes into production.

CATALYST POISONING AND CHEMICAL DEGRADATION

Additives or constituent additive compounds can be injected to understand cumulative or individual effects on aftertreatment system and emissions performance. The effects on performance can be studied using performance characteristic tests and destructive testing.

CATAGEN’s OMEGA technology allows us to inject various compounds in a liquid or gaseous form such as phosphorous, sulphur, chlorine or direct engine oils, to understand the poisoning and doping affects on the catalyst’s emissions performance.

This capability is particularly useful in the HD industry for ageing but also the fuels, lubes and additive industry to understand what a new additive might do to catalyst emissions performance.

BESPOKE TESTING

CATAGEN can design bespoke development tests & programmes for our partners across a range of different aftertreatment applications. Our OMEGA technology offers flexibility in test parameters such as:

  • Gas composition & Concentrations
  • Flow Rates
  • Temperatures
  • Catalyst Sample Size

The adaptability of the OMEGA allows us to design a test that is specific for our partner. Coupled with our knowledge and expertise means we can design and implement a test that will help our partners achieve their development goals
