A flexible, repeatable drive cycle test built around artificial intelligence and the OMEGA Test Reactor.
Measurement of vehicle emissions performance can be a time and labour-intensive process. This is particularly so when considering bench aged catalysts, as these must be removed from the ageing bench and remounted in a test vehicle before testing can commence. To add to the challenge of emissions testing, a test vehicle for each configuration of model, engine and aftertreatment hardware is required. In order to support our partners in this challenge; CATAGEN has developed a drive cycle testing service offering, based on the patented OMEGA test reactor.
VIRTUAL SERVICES MODELLING
Over the last 5-year period of specialised ageing testing and characterisation for customers, CATAGEN has amassed over 6 million data points of ageing and emissions test data on many vehicle types, models, engine sizes and variations. CATAGEN has recorded testing on over 50 catalyst specifications with different configurations and geometries, TWC metallic, TWC ceramic, with GPF, FWC, LNT etc.
This database encompasses CATAGEN’s Pure Measurement of Performance tests for Oxygen Storage and individual and composite Gas Species Light-Offs enabling generation of reaction kinetics for Catalyst Kinetic Modelling.
We understand the power of data and, like a fingerprint, create a kinetic model individual to our partner beyond the current industry standard.
PGM OPTIMISATION SERVICES
The price of precious metals has increased substantially over the past few years and this trend is set to continue. We provide an insight into aftertreatment systems in the following ways:
– Detailed Chemical analysis – provides a detailed chemical breakdown of the aftertreatment device, focusing on key components such as the PGM (platinum, palladium, rhodium) and washcoat composition.
– Reproducible Performance testing – provides the activity analysis of the aftertreatment part, giving an understanding of how well the part will perform.
CATALYST POISONING AND FOULING
Additives or constituent additive compounds can be injected to understand cumulative or individual effects on aftertreatment system and emissions performance. The effects on performance can be studied using light-off tests (fast/slow), Lambda / Air Flow Ratio Sweep (AFR), OSC, drive cycle and destructive testing.
CATAGEN’s OMEGA technology allows us to inject various compounds in a liquid or gaseous form such as phosphorous, sulphur and chlorine.
FUEL AND LUBRICANTS
With stricter emissions regulations being implemented, additives and lubricants manufacturers are faced with the task of introducing lubricant systems that meet the challenges of the new legislation. Engine oil and fuel additives are sought to provide a wide range of benefits, from increase in lubrication to improvement of overall fuel economy. However, it is important that these additives are also compatible with current emissions control systems.
We deliver advance solutions to assess additives impact on systems performance through a unique testing methodology, metrics and data interpretation. Using the OMEGA technology, CATAGEN can embed poisons/additives on the aftertreatment system surfaces to understand the effect on emissions performance.
TEST DESIGN
CATAGEN has the ability to design bespoke development tests & programmes for our partners across a range of different aftertreatment applications. Our OMEGA technology offers flexibility in test parameters which allows us to design a test that is specific for our partner with optimisation always at the forefront. Our technology coupled with our knowledge and expertise means we can design and implement a test that will help our partners achieve their development goals.
