CATAGEN Nominated for the 2025 Earthshot Prize by three organisations.

The Earthshot Prize is a global award that recognises and rewards groundbreaking solutions aimed at repairing and regenerating our planet. It focuses on five key areas, known as the Five Earthshots; Build A Waste Free World, Protect and Restore Nature, Fix Our Climate, Revive Our Oceans and Clean Our Air.

The winning solution is awarded £1 million to scale their innovations.

CATAGEN is proud to be nominated by three organisations: DP World, Tech Nation, and The Royal Academy of Engineering.

DP World, a global logistics provider, is a Global Alliance Founding Partner of the Earthshot Prize, acting as a strategic funding partner.

Tech Nation is a London-based accelerator and incubator, supporting innovative companies from startups to scaleups that have transformative technologies in AI, fintech, digital and climate.

The Royal Academy of Engineering is a charity, National Academy, and Fellowship promoting leadership and innovation in engineering and technology, while shaping policy and engaging the public to tackle challenges in the industry.

All three of these organisations are committed to driving environmental sustainability.

CATAGEN’s mission is to clean and decarbonise the air.

CATAGEN is pioneering ClimaHtech™, a suite of technologies designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation, cement, heavy industry, and marine. ClimaHtech™ includes innovations in bio-hydrogen, e-fuels, and hydrogen compression, helping accelerate the transition to net-zero emissions by 2050.

Additionally, CATAGEN is a leader in energy-efficient e-reactors, achieving a reduction of 2,000 tonnes of CO₂ through its green emissions testing.

Dr. Andrew Woods, CATAGEN CEO and Co-Founder, hopes that winning the Earthshot award will expedite the commercialisation of the ClimaHtech suite, boosting local job creation and retaining talent in Northern Ireland. This expansion would help position the UK as a global leader in the net-zero industry, strengthening sectors such as energy generation, fuel production, and logistics.

“Winning Earthshot would help to scale ClimaHtech’s technologies which can replace diesel and aviation fuels while using existing infrastructure, driving significant environmental impact.”

– Dr. Andrew Woods, CEO and Co-Founder of CATAGEN.

This year, three of CATAEN’s ClimaHtech technologies will be demonstrated in Northern Ireland…

E-FUEL GEN technology produces energy dense liquid e-fuels, another essential future fuel in a net zero economy. ‘Drop in’ or blended synthetic fuels can be produced such as e-diesel, e-gasoline, e-kerosene and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). E-FUEL GEN enables the decarbonisation of hard to decarbonise sectors such as aviation, marine, heavy industry, agriculture, and mobility.

BIOHGEN utilizes proprietary technology to produce cost-effective biohydrogen from sustainable bio-organic sources. When compared to electrolysis BIOHGEN produces twice as much biohydrogen per unit of renewable electricity consumed and uses less water. Applications include heavy industries, like cement or steel, agriculture, and the food and drink industry.

COMPRESSOR is a high-pressure hybrid pumping system, providing highly efficient hydrogen compressing and dispensing, addressing current industry inefficiencies. It has a 30% better hydrogen utilisation than compared to industry, effective in industries such as transport, mobility, non-road machinery, storage, and integrated hydrogen systems.
