ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Emer Duffy, Junior Engineer at CATAGEN. I am currently working as part of the E-Fuels and Carbon Capture teams developing these new technolgies.

The great thing about my role is that it changes day to day. It varies from testing our reactor, to writing reports, analysing test data and a lot more.

Why did you choose to be an Engineer?

Curiosity – I think that is what drives most engineers, the inquisitiveness into how things work and how they could be improved. I love problem solving and that engineering combines creativity with logic. Engineers can make a real impact on the world and innovate new inventions to solve problems that really matter.

What or who inspired you to pursue Engineering?

No one in particular, I just always knew that it is what I wanted to do and I was just fortunate enough to be surrounded by people that supported me and encouraged to me to participate in many STEM events and work experiences to reaffirm that is the career path I wanted to go down.

What advice would you give other girls thinking of going into Engineering ?

Believe in yourself – you might feel like you have to prove yourself more to stand out in such a male dominated career but don’t be disheartened if you are overlooked for some opportunities. As engineering is such a vast industry there are so many options and different paths you can go down, you just have to find the one that plays to your strengths and more importantly that you are truly passionate and excited about.
