Our capability covers both thermal and chemical degradation, with bespoke test methods tailored to customer requirements. This includes accelerated ageing, OBD threshold ageing, rapid ageing protocols and chemical poisoning using compounds such as sulphur and phosphorus to replicate real-world degradation mechanisms.
Applications include gasoline, natural gas, diesel and hybrid powertrains, heavy-duty on-road and off-road systems, e-fuels, hydrogen combustion, biofuels, and other technologies that rely on catalysts for operation.

TESTING SERVICES
STANDARD BENCH CYCLE (SBC)- ACCELERATED AGEING
CATAGEN uses Standard Road Cycle (SRC) data supplied by partners to determine Bench Ageing Time (BAT). Where required, the SBC can also be configured to meet defined time-at-temperature conditions for specific test programmes.
The cycle can be modified to operate at elevated temperatures, enabling accelerated ageing and reducing total test duration while maintaining controlled and repeatable conditions.
Our proprietary CATAGEN thermal Ageing Metric is embedded in our test software and provides real time, second-by-second monitoring of temperature, gas composition and flow rate throughout each ageing cycle. This delivers highly consistent results with repeatability within 0.5%.
RAPID AGEING PROTOCOLS
CATAGEN uses rapid ageing protocols, including fuel cut ageing, to accelerate aftertreatment degradation under high-temperature lean conditions. Test parameters such as catalyst temperature, fuel cut duration, frequency and flow rate can be adjusted to meet specific customer requirements.
We can run bespoke lean spike protocols as well as the ZDAKW cycle, depending on programme objectives.
NON AUTOMOTIVE – INDUSTRIAL CATALYST AGEING
CATAGEN uses proprietary OMEGA technology, an advanced synthetic recirculating gas reactor, to deliver accelerated durability testing for industrial catalyst applications.
This approach supports a broad range of industrial catalyst studies, including reformer catalyst ageing for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) applications.
Our facility is equipped for operation with natural gas and includes dedicated de-sulfurisation capability to manage sulphur-related test challenges. The site is also approved for the controlled use and management of hydrogen, enabling safe and reliable testing of hydrogen-related catalyst processes.
OBD THRESHOLD AGEING
To support OBD validation, CATAGEN ages catalysts and sensors to defined diagnostic thresholds using high-temperature dynamic ageing methods. Intermittent performance checks, including OSC and LO testing, are used throughout the programme to track degradation and confirm progress against customer targets.
This ensures components reach the required OBD threshold accurately, without over-ageing, enabling reliable validation of catalyst deterioration detection.
